The fashion industry has really made some positive adjustments giving many more style options for the man’s wardrobe. Several articles I’ve read lately have even pointed out that ‘khakis’ are DEAD! Well, we’ll see about that (and some of us can only hope!). However, here is an article by Brostrick.com recommending several different brands of ‘chinos’ to update your spring and summer wardrobe. In addition, the 5-pocket denim type pant like Nordstrom’s AG brand has a fantastic color selection which is a nice change of pace from the typical ‘blue’ jean. Need to update your spring wardrobe? A new client, I met over a year ago, says she wishes she would have contacted me THEN! As we walked into her bedroom she throws her arms out wide and says, ‘Here’s the room of shame.’ She had piles of clothes on the bed, several plastic bins for us to sort through, then the bedroom closet plus another bedroom closet. After two afternoons worth ‘editing’…9 Goodwill bags and 5 resale (maybe), she says she is soooo relieved to have had me with her to help her understand what’s working and WHY and what’s NOT working and WHY and to permission to LET GO.
What was holding her back from contacting me sooner was the embarrassment of me seeing what she has bought and never worn AND what she has held on to knowing she should let it go AND instead of hiring me, she kept buying and making mistakes. (Sound familiar?) I reassured her not to be mortified of this wardrobe reality because most of us have been there. If you’re facing the ‘edit’ dilemma, trust me, I’ve never heard a client say she regrets it, just that she wishes she would have done it sooner. Contact me for your winter to spring wardrobe transition!
I’ve begun several ‘spring edits’ and two colors that often ‘pop’ out in women’s closets every spring/summer season are the warm coral, salmon, watermelon shades and the crisp aqua, Tiffany light and airy blue hue. Check out Pantone’s entire 2016 spring color list here. These two colors can be extremely flattering against the right skin tones. Consider a pair of cute colorful ballet flats to add some color to an outfit!
We all see it….and a lot of us do it…wear yoga pants or sports’ leggings as our ‘go to’ casual outfit even when we aren’t going to a yoga class nor to the gym. I honestly get really tired of the ‘lack of effort’ put into going out in public, so I try to find solutions to being comfortable and looking stylish. A darling look are these ‘skirted leggings’. I have a pair I wear often with basic t-shirts or sweatshirt type tops and I feel put together plus very comfortable and get compliments on the entire look. Skirted leggings are a ‘must have’ staple if you are often seen in public, like the coffee shop or grocery store. Check out the sale QVC is having!
Recently I met Hayley Besheer, designer and founder her own ‘panties’ or undergarment company, called MADI Apparel, located in KC’s Westside neighborhood – just west of the crossroads. MADI Apparel is not just bought here in Kansas City, but sold nationally and even globally!
I now have a black and an off white pair from their ‘intimates’ line and love love they way they fit! What is super cool is for every pair of underwear you buy, they donate a pair to a woman in need. Underwear is the most needed, under-donated article of clothing and tops the “Most Urgent Needs,” list at most domestic violence shelters. I truly did not know this! What I also appreciate is they are made here locally by a talented undergarments’ apparel designer named Laura Treas.
If you’re curious about the MADI Apparel, they are hosting an evening event Oct. 24th called #theGreatDonate at Hayley’s studio. Check out their website for further info. madiapparel.com

In my newsletter last month I mentioned ‘suede’ being a spring trend, especially in shoes. I have a cobalt blue pump I’ve had for 5 years and wear them all year round. However, they need a little spiffing up and wanted to share some tips on how to clean if you invest in a cute pair this season. 1. WikiHow or 2. brush them (like with a toothbrush for example) or use an eraser and whatever you do, do not use water and spray stain repellent before you wear them out. If you’re not into suede, at least add a colorful shoe to your wardrobe this season! My fashion recommendation is EVERY woman should own at least one pair of RED shoes!
I’ve shopped for several clients this month and have fitted each one in the same black blazer (brand is Eliza J) because it’s such a wonderful ‘wardrobe solution’ piece! (Sometimes it’s challenging to even FIND blazers!) I am even buying it for myself! What I LOVE about it is the cool ruched sleeves, pretty much non-iron light weight material, simple one-button, and a little shorter in length. Perfect for petites!! It’s super stylish, and simple, but not too trendy. I can promise you’ll wear this piece over and OVER! PLUS this is a solution to those sometimes ugly shrugs worn over gala event dresses to cover your arms or add warmth. Nordstrom’s is also carrying a ‘basic black blazer’ (without the ruched sleeves, a little longer in length) that’s wonderful. I did a little research and found another very cool GREY ruched sleeve blazer (made out of my favorite material—PONTE knit) that has a hip zipper running down the back. (I love how the model is wearing it too!) If you need assistance in finding fabulous wardrobe pieces, contact me for a shopping session! (816)728-1121
Not necessarily a pattern or color you’d make a special shopping trip to seek out, however the possibilities of this fashionable pump could really jazz up your daytime or nighttime wardrobe ensemble! These caught my eye not only for the pattern but the heel height would allow you to strut easily and elegantly! I know the pointy toe might be an issue for some, but if you can wear these they definitely elongate your legs! Also, this shoe comes in several solid colors, but sizes might be limited. Enjoy!
